UEFA European U-21 Championship 2006 player's profile

After 15 years on the books of hometown club Olympique de Marseille, Flamini’s decision to swap the French Riviera for north London was a difficult one. He had made 14 Ligue 1 appearances in 2003/04, and also played a major role in their progress to the UEFA Cup final, where he played for 71 minutes of the 2-0 defeat by Valencia CF. But that was his final involvement with the club and the industrious midfielder joined Arsenal FC on a free transfer that summer, after helping France Under-20s claim victory at the Toulon Tournament. Injuries gave Flamini an early chance in midfield but he really came into his own this season, thriving at left-back with Ashley Cole injured and helping the Gunners reach the UEFA Champions League final against FC Barcelona.
