1989 Born March 1 in Cancun, Quintana Roo. 2005 October: Helps the Mexican team to win the World U17 Championship in Peru. Finishes the tournament as top scorer with 5 goals. November: Joined Arsenal for 3 million euros from Guadalajara. 2006 February: Left Arsenal for Spanish side Celta Vigo after failing to secure a work permit to play for the Gunners. August: Re-loaned to UD Salamanca. September 10: Carlos Vela scored his first professional goal in the Spanish second division match between his club Salamanca and Almeria. 2007 July: Represented Mexico in the FIFA U-20 World Cup at Canada. He was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals but was defeated by Argentina 1-0. August 31: Carlos Vela earned his first selection for a Mexican national team roster when he was chosen by coach Hugo Sanchez for exhibition games against Panama and Brazil. September 12: Made his Mexican national team debut entering the field in the 73th minute as a substitute for Nery Castillo in the 1-3 defeat to Brazil in Foxborough, Massachusetts. September 26: Made his Spanish La Liga debut in Osasuna's 4-1 defeat of Levante at the Reyno de Navarra Stadium in Pamplona, Spain.
