April: Suffers World Cup blow after being sidelined for six weeks with damaged ligaments in his left knee.
May: Selected by manager Guus Hiddink in Australia's 23-man squad for the World Cup.
June 12: Tim Cahill did not only score Australia's first goal at a FIFA World Cup finals, he added a second which helped them to a 3-1 win over Japan. An added bonus for the 26-year-old was that he picked up the Budweiser Man of the Match Award in the process.
October 17: Included among the 50 nominees for the European Footballer of the Year Award.
November 11: Tim Cahill could be out for at least six weeks after damaging medial knee ligaments during Everton's 1-0 home defeat by Aston Villa.

July: Represented Australia in the Asian Cup. He helped the Socceroos to reach the quarterfinals in its first major AFC tournament participation.
2008
March 28: Ruled out of the rest of the season with a broken metatarsal. He lasted just 10 minutes against West Ham (22/03) after suffering a recurrence of an old foot injury.
