FIFA World Cup
Germany 2006 player's profile
Theo Walcotts inclusion in Sven-Goran Erikssons FIFA
World Cup squad caused jaws to drop across England, yet
those who have seen the 17-year-old at close quarters believe
he will soon earn an identical reaction for his feats on a football
pitch.
Walcott has had a whirlwind year which began at his first club
Southampton last August. After 21 appearances and four goals,
he joined Arsenal in January and has since been learning his
trade with the reserves.
Blessed with enough pace to
be able to out-sprint Thierry Henry on the training ground, he
had represented England at every level up to U-19 prior to his
surprise elevation to the seniors.

UEFA Champions League 2005-06 player's profile
Widely regarded as the most promising and talented teenager in
England, forward Theo Walcott is renowned for his searing pace
and powerful shot.
National team
Walcott helped England reach the finals of the UEFA European
Under-17 Championship in Italy, although he was unable to help
his team progress beyond the group stage.
Club
Walcott caught the eye of a talent scout from Southampton FC
while playing for his local side at the age of 14 and was quickly
signed as an apprentice in 2004. Despite his young age and slight
build he progressed into the first team the following year, breaking
the club record for the youngest player to turn out for the south-coast
side at just 15 years and 175 days. He scored five goals in 23
appearances for the second division side during 2005/06 before
Arsenal won the much-documented race for his services, securing
his signature for an initial 7.3m fee which could rise
to 17.5m depending on appearances and achievements.
Did you know?
Walcott is the grandson of the legendary West Indian cricketer
Clyde Walcott.
