UEFA Champions League
2004-05 player's profile
One of PSV Eindhoven's promising crop of Danish talent, the shaven-headed
Kasper Bøgelund is a wing-back of notable speed and skill.
National team
Bøgelund broke into the Denmark side against Saudi Arabia
in February 2002. His cool displays were enough to book a place
on the plane for the FIFA World Cup finals in Korea/Japan, where
he appeared twice as a substitute, including the 3-0 second-round
defeat by England. Despite being plagued by injury, Bøgelund
made it to UEFA EURO 2004 and after missing the first two
group games, made two appearances including the 3-0 quarter-final
defeat by Czech Republic.
Club
Bøgelund played for his hometown club, Odense BK, prior
to joining PSV Eindhoven for the 1999/00 season. After only playing
five games in his first two campaigns, he made 24 league appearances
during his breakthrough year of 2001/02 and was a model of consistency
in Europe, playing in all six of their UEFA Cup ties. Bøgelund
played a major role in PSV's 2003 title triumph, appearing 20
times. The Dane's season was thought to be over in March after
he tore cruciate ligaments in a 2-0 victory over AFC Ajax but
showed his battling qualities to return for the crucial final
three matches.
2003/04: Made just 15 league
appearances and played only twice in the Champions League in
a season beset by injury, including a groin strain in September,
concussion in December, calf problem in January and a hamstring
tear in April.
Did you know?
Bøgelund would have scored for Denmark against England
at Korea/Japan, only for team-mate Jon Dahl Tomasson to inadvertently
clear off the line when a goal seemed certain.

UEFA EURO 2004 qualifying
Was on the bench twice, for both games against Norway, and played
two complete matches, both 2-0 defeats of Luxembourg, as Denmark
won Group 2.

2003/04: Endured a number of injury problems which limited
him to just 15 Eredivisie outings as PSV relinquished their crown
to Ajax. The latter of these, a torn hamstring, threatened to
keep him out of EURO 2004.
