1986 Born February 15 in Goriahovitza, Bulgaria. 2006 September 06: Bozhinov inspired Bulgaria to victory as the team continued their impressive start to Euro 2008 qualifying with a 3-0 defeat of Slovenia in Sofia. 2007 May 19: Won promotion to Serie A with Juventus with three games to spare in the Serie B. August 2: Fiorentina confirmed the sale of Valeri Bojinov to Manchester City. The English club will give the Viola 8.5 million euros, while the Bulgarian striker signed a four-year contract worth 2 million euros a season. August 20: Manchester City confirmed that Valeri Bojinov damaged the lateral and anterior cruciate ligaments of his left knee in Man City's 1-0 win over Manchester United. He fell awkwardly following an aerial challenge with Patrice Evra after just six minutes of his first start for the Blues and is set to be out for "at least five months." 2008 August 17: Snapped his achilles tendon and could be out of action for six months after only recently returning from knee ligament damage which had kept him sidelined for just under a year. He sustained the injury while warming up before Man City's first league game of the season against Aston Villa FC.

Valeri Bojinov · Bulgaria
UEFA EURO
2004 player's profile
Heralding from a sporting family, Valeri Bojinov is the most
talented of Bulgaria's young footballers. Speedy and strong,
he also possesses the skill and drive to make it to the very
top of the European game.
National team
Such is Bojinov's promise, he was selected for UEFA EURO 2004
despite never playing for Bulgaria's senior side, although he
had represented his country at a number of youth levels and scored
on his Under-21 debut with a superb overhead kick against Greece.
Club
At the age of 12 Bojinov moved to Malta with his mother Pepa,
a former Bulgarian international basketball player, and stepfather
Sasho Angelov, who won several caps in the early 1990s. The youngster
joined Pietà Hotspurs FC and was soon spotted by US Lecce
scout Pantelo Corvino, who took the 14-year-old prodigy to Italy.
On 27 January 2002 Bojinov became the youngest ever foreign debutant
in Serie A when he came on against Brescia Calcio aged 15 years,
eleven months and 12 days. Lecce were relegated that season but
their Bulgarian import impressed in his 15 outings as they secured
an immediate return.
2003/04: Set another milestone on 11 January 2004 when
he became the youngest non-national to score in Serie A. Started
17 games and came on as a substitute in ten more to earn the
praise of Gianluca Vialli, who said of Bojinov: "He's better
than Christian Vieri was at that age."
Did you know?
Only four players, including the great Gianni Rivera, have played
in Serie A at a younger age than Bojinov.
