FIFA World Cup™ Germany 2006 player's profile

Like a predator seeking his prey, Inzaghi’s instincts are all set to scoring goals. The prolific striker is hoping to feature in his third FIFA World Cup™ after playing at the 1998 and 2002 finals.
‘Superpippo’ won top scorer honours and the young player of the year award in 1997 while at Atalanta. He then moved to Juventus and won the league title the following season, but lost in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

He made up for this defeat when he won the Champions League with AC Milan in 2003. With Milan, he also won the Serie A title in 2004. The striker played for Italy at UEFA EURO 2000 but missed out on the 2004 tournament due to a serious ankle injury. He struggled for fitness subsequently but finally recovered his goalscoring form in 2005/06.

UEFA Champions League 2005-06 player's profile

A penalty-box predator with a gift for sniffing out goals, Filippo Inzaghi joined AC Milan from Juventus FC in 2001.

National team
'Pippo' was in Italy's squad at the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cup finals as well as at UEFA EURO 2000™. He top-scored for the Azzurri in the qualifying campaign for Korea/Japan with seven goals in six games. He was also Italy's leading scorer with six goals in five appearances in qualifying for UEFA EURO 2004™, although injury prevented him from travelling to Portugal and limited his opportunities in the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Club
Emerged from Italy's lower leagues with the reputation of an arch-poacher, something Inzaghi has consolidated during successful spells with Juve and Milan. Forty-one goals in three seasons with Leffe Calcio, Hellas-Verona FC and Piacenza FC had earned him his break with a move to Serie A with Parma AC.

1996: It was only when he joined Atalanta BC that Inzaghi's talents reached a wider audience. His 24 goals in 33 matches for the Bergamo club won him the top scorer, or 'capocannoniere', prize in 1996/97 and a €14.5m switch to Juve.

1997: A league championship followed at the Delle Alpi during the next campaign, as Inzaghi formed a prolific partnership with Alessandro Del Piero. But that would be his only title in Turin.

2001: Eyebrows were raised when Juve agreed to sell him to Milan in a €40m part-exchange deal involving Christian Zenoni. It was money well spent by the Rossoneri, however, with Inzaghi scored 12 times in 16 UEFA Champions League appearances as the club were crowned European champions in 2002/03. A troublesome ankle injury restricted him to just 14 appearances, and only three goals, as Milan regained the Serie A title the next season.

2004/05: Again bothered by ankle and hand injuries, Inzaghi was limited to just eleven appearances in Serie A and two in the Champions League, missing the final against Liverpool FC.

Filippo was selected to play alongside brother Simone in Italy's friendly against England in November 1999.
