1974 Born November 16 in Salford, England. 2006 October 22: Paul Scholes made his 500th appearance for Manchester United on their Premiership defeat of Liverpool 2-0. 2007 April 22: Included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. May 2: Lost the Champions League semi-final with Manchester United against AC Milan on a 5-3 aggregate score. May 6: Helped Manchester United won the Premier League for the first time in four years as 10-man Chelsea, needing victory to keep the title race alive, could only draw 1-1 at Arsenal. May 19: Lost the FA Cup final with Man United to Chelsea following a 0-1 extra time defeat at the New Wembley. 2008 April 23: Joined the Champions League century club when he made his 100th appearance (20 goals scored) in the competition for Manchester United in the semi-final, first leg 0-0 draw against Barcelona at the Nou Camp. His century comes 14 years after his first appearance also against Barcelona, in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in October 1994. April 29: Scored a spectacular early strike wich proved enough to edge a pulsating semi-final against FC Barcelona that put Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time since winning the competition nine years ago. May 11: Vital member in the Manchester United squad that retained their Premiership title on the final day of the season to edge Chelsea by two points. May 21: Scholes broke his nose in the Champions League final against Chelsea but played through the pain barrier to win the medal he missed out on nine years ago. He was injured in a first-half collision with Chelsea's Claude Makelele that saw both players yellow carded by Slovak referee Lubos Michel with Scholes bloodied, bruised and needing treatment from the physios before he rejoined the action.

|
UEFA Champions League
2005-06 player's profile
Paul Scholes is not afraid to make runs into the penalty area
and possesses the instinct and natural ability to convert many
of the chances that come his way.
Club
Has only ever played for Manchester United FC, for whom he made
his debut against Ipswich Town FC in September 1994. Since then
he has won six Premiership titles, three FA Cups and in 1999
the UEFA Champions League. Scholes scored four European goals
in that treble-clinching campaign, but missed the final through
suspension. After retiring from international football in 2004/05
he remained a United inspiration, yet sat out much of the subsequent
season with an eye problem.
National team
After making his England debut in a friendly against South Africa
in 1997, Scholes found the net in England's opening games at
the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2000, and was ever
present for his country in Korea/Japan. He announced his retirement
after UEFA EURO 2004, where he took his cap count to 66.
The last of 14 goals came against Croatia in the group stage.

UEFA EURO 2004 player's profile
A key player for Manchester United FC and England, Paul Scholes
has a habit of scoring vital goals from midfield as well as providing
numerous assists.
National team
Scholes made his England debut in a friendly against South Africa
in 1997 and has pretty much been a regular ever since. He found
the net in England's opening games at the 1998 FIFA World Cup
and UEFA EURO 2000 , and was ever present for his country
in Korea/Japan.
UEFA EURO 2004 qualifying
Scholes hit a lean spell in front of goal for his country, failing
to score in any of the six qualifiers in which he played. None
the less, his football brain and range of passing were instrumental
in England winning Group 7.
Club
As a former striker, he is not afraid to make runs into the penalty
area and possesses the instinct and natural ability to convert
many of the chances that come his way. His Premiership debut
came against Ipswich Town FC in September 1994, and it was not
long before he was a fixture in the side. In 1999 he scored United's
equaliser against Internazionale FC to secure a place in the
UEFA Champions League semi-final. Overall, he hit four goals
as United went on to claim the Champions League crown, but missed
the final in Barcelona through suspension. He was United's top
scorer in the 2000/01 Champions League campaign, with six goals,
and was again an integral part of the team that reached the 2001/02
semi-finals.
2002: Perhaps United's most important player along with
Ruud van Nistelrooij as they won their sixth title during Scholes's
time at the club. He scored 20 goals in total, including a stunning
hat-trick against Newcastle United FC.
2003/4: A disappointing season for United did not stop
Scholes helping himself to 14 goals. Finished another impressive
campaign with an FA Cup winners medal.
Did you know?
Scholes was the first England player to be sent off at Wembley.

BBC's UEFA EURO 2004 player's profile
Once England's most prolific midfield goalscorer, the goals
have dried up for Scholes.
Scholes has not scored at international level since June 2001
against Greece but remains one of the first names on Sven-Goran
Eriksson's teamsheet.
He is, despite a barren spell in front of goal, England's most
technically gifted midfielder who can create chances with his
intelligent passing.
Scholes also has vast, and invaluable, experience at the highest
level for club and country.
