August 22: Newcastle moved a step closer to signing Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins after agreeing a £10m deal with Inter Milan.
August 24: Martins completes Newcastle move, he joined NUFC for 10.1 million pounds and a five-year contract.
August 27: Made his premiership debut for Newcastle but was hurt after jumping for a header and landing awkwardly in the 60th minute. Newcastle having made already their 3 substitutions had to play the last 30 minutes with 10 men, Aston Villa won the match 2-0.
September 16: Martins scored his first ever goal for Newcastle United in their 2-0 victory at West Ham.
September 27: Obafemi Martins claimed his first goals at St James' Park as Newcastle booked their place in the UEFA Cup group stage with a 2-0 victory over Levadia Tallinn.
June 18: Escaped uninjured after being shot at while driving in Lagos. He was attacked by masked gunmen, hours after he returned home from Nigeria's Nations Cup qualifier against Niger.
2008
February: Represented Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Ghana. He was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals but were defeated by Ghana 1-2.
